40mm - Hatashita Grappling Puzzle Mats

I love the quality of these mats and was needing more for the basement.

Got these for home training and I’ve been very happy with them.

The 40mm grappling mats are excellent. I have been using them for bjj and karate and they are perfect for either. I highly recommend them for any gymnast or martial artist.

Tested them out for a couple of months before writing this review and I can say that I am very satisfied with the grappling mats. They arrived quickly and were well sealed fortransport. That being said, they were very dirty when they came in, obviously they've been sitting in the warehouse for a while and nobody bothered to give them a wipe before shipping them. After cleaning them thoroughly, I was able to test them. They were a bit hard at first, and the smell was very intense, but it quickly got better. After a few days, the smell was almost completely gone and the mats "broke in" and soften up, absorbing more impact. I use them directly on hard wooden floor, and have no problem throwing and being thrown on them. They are heavy enough so they stay rather stable under your feets, even if you don't use blockers. I haven't been scraped or skinburned at all grappling on the ground with shorts and t-shirts either and the fittings are almost seamless, making a smooth comfortable surface.

In short, they are high quality grappling mats, perfect for home training and very affordable for a product like this. Highly recommend.

The mats are pretty good - I love them. The foam density is a lot higher than the cheap 10mm mats so they feel harder to fall on but also don't come apart when you do fall or run on them - it's a good trade-off I think. I wish the mat face finish was a little more tough so that nails could not scratch it easily but I think that may be a trade-off between grip - which again is fine with me.

The only issue I had was with the shipping. The mats came in a thin meshed plastic bag which was ripped around a couple of the corners. Each mats comes with an end trim, most of which you'll not end up using so I was not too concerned with any damage plus the foam is so dense there were no scratches on the trims. However, the mat faces came with a few pin needle size holes which I assume happened during transport. A cardboard on each side of the meshed bag would have done the trick to protect the mats.

Overall they're great mats and I would recommend them over the cheaper ones.
