The judo world pauses with gratitude.
Christa Deguchi, Olympic Champion, World Champion, and a trailblazer for Canadian judo, has officially announced her retirement from competitive sport. With her historic gold medal at Paris 2024, she didn’t just win — she etched her name into the very fabric of Canadian judo history.
For 27 years, judo shaped her path. From a young child stepping onto the tatami to standing atop the Olympic podium, her journey has been one of resilience, growth, and quiet determination.
In her own words, this moment is not an ending, but a “graduation.”
And what a graduation it is.
She leaves the sport on her own terms — fulfilled, grateful, and ready to give back. Her intention to support the next generation reflects the true spirit of judo: mutual welfare and benefit, passed from one generation to the next.
At Hatashita International, judo is not just a sport — it is our legacy. For over 75 years, we have been proud to support athletes who carry its values forward. Christa’s journey embodies everything judo stands for: perseverance, humility, and excellence.
Thank you, Christa, for inspiring a nation, elevating Canadian judo, and showing the world what is possible.
We look forward to seeing how your next chapter shapes the future of our sport.

On another matter, we are interested in quality martial arts supplies for our organization, including Fuji and Mizuno quality brands.
